The red asthma inhaler is commonly referred to as a “preventer” inhaler. It typically contains a corticosteroid medication, such as beclomethasone, fluticasone, or budesonide. These medications help reduce inflammation in the airways, making them less sensitive and less likely to react to triggers. Preventer inhalers are used daily, even when you’re not experiencing symptoms, to help manage and control chronic asthma over the long term. They are different from “reliever” inhalers (usually blue), which contain fast-acting medication like albuterol to provide immediate relief during an asthma attack.
