For the 150th anniversary of AP, say goodbye to the regulator in the QP case and hello to a movement operated entirely by the crown

Do you like themed parties? I’m not a huge fan, but as they say, different tastes for different people. Audemars Piguet celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, and while it would have been fine without a theme for such an important moment in the brand’s history, there is a theme. The theme chosen and explored by “AP” is ergonomics. Sounds boring, right? Wait till you see what the brand has in store. So, let’s get the party started by introducing all the new products from Audemars Piguet’s first semester, including the new ergonomic perpetual calendar movements in the Royal Oak and Code 11.59 collections.

The perpetual calendar is a complex classic, and Audemars Piguet has decades of experience in crafting “QP”. For example, in 1948 the brand from Le Brassus launched its first perpetual calendar. Of the 12 ref. 5516 watches produced, 9 were the first perpetual calendar watches to display the leap year on the dial. It seemed logical to mark the brand’s 150th anniversary by launching a new automatic perpetual calendar calibre 7138. This movement is easier to operate and the calendar function on the dial is easier to read. Let’s start with the operation – the integrated crown eliminates the corrector on the side of the case. luxury replica watches

Three new models have been AP ergonomically treated – a 41mm × 10.6mm, 18K white gold (26494BC.OO.D350KB.01), and two 41mm × 9.5mm Royal Oak models, in either steel (26674ST.OO.1320ST.01) or 18K sand gold (26674SG.OO.1320SG.01). There are also three corresponding “anniversary” limited editions with a cursive brand logo and anniversary rotor.

It all starts with the 4.1mm thick, 422-part 7138 automatic perpetual calendar movement, which took five years to develop and is protected by five patents. This new 4Hz movement does not require a clumsy corrector on the side of the case. Instead, one crown does it all. It takes four positions to adjust all functions. The first position is clockwise winding. In the second position, turning the crown clockwise sets the date and vice versa adjusts the month and leap year.

Pulling the crown out to the third position allows you to manipulate the time in both directions. Pushing the crown back in takes you to the fourth and final position. The crown is now in the 2′ position and, thanks to a clever gearbox system, you can now set the day and week clockwise and the moon phase counterclockwise. The system works very intuitively and simply, but this is due to the complex mechanism driven by the innovative lever and the floating wheel that meshes with different calendar wheels in the 2 and 2′ positions. One patent protects the crown correction system in the 2′ position, another for the correction of the month and date via the crown. replica watches review

From America to Europe
The readability of the calendar was also the subject of ergonomic improvements – at least for some wearers. Instead of the American date, the dial now features a European date display. So, the day of the week display is at 9 o’clock, the date is at 12 o’clock, and the month is at 3 o’clock. As with previous perpetual calendar models, the week number is printed on the inner ring. Since everything usually starts with "1", AP applied that logic to the QP. So now the first week of the year ("1") appears at 12 o’clock. Likewise, "Monday" and "1" have been aligned at 12 o’clock in their respective subdials to mark the start of the week and the first day of the month.

Logic in the Subdials
When you look at the 12 o’clock subdial showing the date, you may notice that the surrounding numbers look less crowded. The numbers are more evenly spaced, increasing readability. To achieve this, AP developed a date wheel with 31 custom teeth. Not only do the teeth vary in size, but also in shape and depth. There’s a lot going on in the 3 o’clock subdial as well. This subdial indicates both the month and leap year. The 9 o’clock subdial also displays multiple indications. It doubles as a 24-hour indicator and displays a red no-correction zone telling you that the watch should not be set between 21 and 3 o’clock. If you still want to try, no big deal. The date may not change, but you won’t damage the movement. high quality replica watches

What would a perpetual calendar be like without a moon phase indicator (the most romantic feature)? There’s nothing new about the subdial at 6 o’clock, but the full moon is now centered on the 12 o’clock axis for better aesthetic balance. If you want to learn more about the new QP watches, a more in-depth article is planned for later this week.

The “Beast” is back. In 2023, Audemars Piguet presents the Royal Oak Offshore Automatic Chronograph (ref. 26238CE.OO.1300CE.01). This was the brand’s first watch to feature a black ceramic case and matching bracelet. Hurry and get your hands on one, as Audemars Piguet has discontinued the watch in favor of a monochrome version with a Mega Tapisserie dial. Inside the black ceramic 42mm × 15.3mm case of the ref. 26238CE.OO.1300CE.02 beats the 433-component caliber 4404. This is Audemars Piguet’s integrated in-house chronograph movement with flyback functionality and a 70-hour power reserve. The watch features classic round pushers, a detail that recalls the 1993 original. Jacob and Co. Casino Tourbillon replica

Three new Code 11.59 models
The most festive of the new Code 11.59 models, the Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Automatic Flying Tourbillon (26665SG.ZZ.D209CR.01/price on request), features 235 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 1.2 ct) on the case, lugs and crown. The 38 mm × 9.6 mm 18K aventurine case houses the first automatic flying tourbillon movement from Audemars Piguet, the ultra-thin RD#3 Calibre 2969.

Also new for AP’s first semester are two new color variations based on an existing theme. The dials and straps of both 41 mm Code 11.59 models feature a new grey hue that contrasts subtly with details in AP’s famous “Blue Nuit, Nuage 50” hue. There’s the 41mm x 10.7mm Automatic (Ref. 15210ST.OO.A009KB.01), which has a recently updated dial pattern with indices replacing numerals and a graphic flange, and the 41mm x 12.6mm Automatic Chronograph (Ref. 26393ST.OO.A009KB.01), which is, yes, thicker than the QP version. replica Bell and Ross
